In spring, when snow and ice have melted away, rivers come alive with sound. Rivers and riverbanks are wonderfully diverse habitats, home to a rich variety of plants and animals. Throughout human history, rivers have been used as means of transportation, territory markers, and sources of food. Humans have also recognized and respected the wild power of rivers.
In this issue, we include three traditional tales that help answer some of our questions about rivers: What are rivers? How are they formed? Can their power be harnessed? Who makes their home by the river?
By the time you've finished reading this issue, we hope you'll be able to:
•    Make a river swimmer
•    Create a dot painting
